Abstract

This research aims to analyze the motivation and sociodemographic aspects of tourism demand in a rural destination: Chone case – Ecuador. The methodology presents a synthetic-descriptive analytical approach. The characterization of the study area is carried out through techniques such as strategic SWOT analysis. The potential demand for tourism is carried out through a random survey. The territory of the Chone canton has abundant tourist resources, however, there is a low quality in the offer of tourist services. The main motivations of tourists include gastronomy, adventure experiences, recreation, and rural tourism, among others. The potential of rural tourism responds to the natural and cultural resources that make up the tourism concept of the canton. It is concluded that a greater organization of tourism in Chone is required, as well as the offer of innovative products with territorial identity.
