EDITORIAL AND PUBLICATION GUIDELINES

Tourism, Development and Buen Vivir – Research Journal of Tourism Science (RICIT)

1. Scope and General Provisions

RICIT publishes original and unpublished research articles, methodological studies, case analyses, reviews, and theoretical essays in the field of tourism and its contribution to economic development.

Submission of a manuscript implies full, informed, and irrevocable acceptance of these Editorial Guidelines.

Manuscripts that do not strictly comply with these provisions will be automatically rejected without entering peer review.

2. Types of Contributions and Length
  • Research Articles and Studies: Maximum 20 pages (including tables, figures, and references).

  • Reviews and Essays: Maximum 10 pages.

Exceeding the established length limits constitutes grounds for automatic rejection.

3. Manuscript Format Requirements

All submissions must comply strictly with the following format:

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt

  • Line spacing: 1.15

  • Text alignment: Justified

  • Page size: A4

  • Editable Word format

Submissions are accepted in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.

Failure to comply with formatting standards will result in immediate rejection.

4. Figures and Tables
  • All images, photographs, and illustrations must be labeled as Figures.

  • Statistical or structured data must be presented as Tables.

  • All figures and tables must be numbered, titled, and cited within the text.

  • They must also be uploaded separately in the OJS system as supplementary files with adequate resolution and quality.

Non-compliance may delay evaluation or result in rejection.

5. Citation and Referencing Style

All manuscripts must strictly adhere to APA Style (6th edition).

Improper citation, incomplete references, or inconsistencies in formatting may constitute grounds for rejection.

6. Peer Review and Anonymity

RICIT applies a double-blind peer review system.

Accordingly:

  • Manuscripts must not contain any information that may identify the authors.

  • Any identifying information (names, affiliations, acknowledgments, self-referencing language, funding disclosures, etc.) within the manuscript will result in immediate rejection.

  • Author information must be entered exclusively in the metadata section of the OJS platform.

The integrity of the blind review process is non-negotiable.

7. Submission and Metadata Responsibility (OJS Platform)

All manuscripts must be submitted exclusively through the OJS platform with complete and definitive metadata at the time of submission.

The corresponding author bears sole and full responsibility for:

  • Correctly entering complete data of all authors.

  • Ensuring the accuracy and finality of metadata before submission.

Only authors registered in the metadata at the moment of submission will be recognized as authors.

No authorship modifications will be accepted once the editorial process has begun.

The omission of authors in metadata or requests to add authors after submission constitute a serious ethical violation and may result in immediate rejection, regardless of the stage of review.

RICIT assumes no responsibility for errors or omissions committed by the corresponding author during metadata registration.

8. Mandatory Information in OJS

The following information is mandatory:

  • Full name of each author, including highest academic degree.

  • ORCID identifier for each author (publicly visible).

  • Institutional affiliation and country.

  • Contact email address.

  • Brief biographical note specifying each author's contribution to the manuscript.

If the manuscript derives from collaborative work with students, the corresponding author must be a faculty member with a verifiable academic degree. The journal reserves the right to request supporting documentation.

A maximum of four authors per manuscript is permitted.

9. Letters of Acceptance

Letters of acceptance will be issued only after:

  • Completion of peer review

  • Completion of required revisions

  • Final editorial decision

They will be sent exclusively during the official publication week.

Under no circumstances will advance, provisional, or conditional letters of acceptance be issued.

Requests for early certification will not be considered.

10. Authorship and Ethical Responsibility

Each listed author must have participated sufficiently to assume public responsibility for the content.

Authorship credit requires fulfillment of all of the following:

a) Substantial contribution to the conception and design of the study, or analysis and interpretation of data.
b) Drafting or critical revision of significant intellectual content.
c) Final approval of the version to be published.

Participation limited solely to funding acquisition, data collection, or general supervision does not justify authorship.

The order of authorship must be mutually agreed upon by all co-authors.

Individuals who do not meet authorship criteria must be acknowledged in a designated Acknowledgments section.

The Editorial Committee reserves the right to request formal justification of authorship attribution at any stage.

RICIT adheres to internationally recognized ethical standards and good editorial practices, including the principles promoted by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).

Confirmed ethical misconduct may result in:

  • Immediate rejection

  • Retraction (if already published)

  • Notification to affiliated institutions

11. Degree-Related Submissions

Editorial timelines are independent of academic calendars.

Therefore:

  • Theses, dissertations, or graduation projects will not be accepted.

  • Articles submitted as graduation requirements will not be accepted.

RICIT assumes no responsibility for editorial timelines affecting academic procedures.

 Frequency and deadlines

RICIT is an annual journal with a rolling call for submissions. However, there are two deadlines for the editorial process:

First deadline: 30 May (manuscripts received by this date may be published within the same year).

Second deadline: 30 September (manuscripts received by this date may be published in the same year or the following year).

Editorial focus

RICIT is dedicated to the dissemination of innovative research in tourism and related topics. We accept papers that offer critical analysis, original results, preliminary findings from ongoing research, and unexplored approaches that bring new perspectives to the field.

We do not accept plans, diagnoses, or papers that do not fall within the scope of executed and applied research.

Interoperability

The journal uses the OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative – Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) protocol for the exchange of metadata on the Internet. Metadata is encoded under the Dublin Core standard.

Submission of a manuscript implies full and irrevocable acceptance of these editorial guidelines.
