Chinese tourists ranked ninth among the top tourist markets visiting Ecuador in 2017. The purpose of this study is to answer whether the Santa Elena Peninsula is prepared to host the Chinese outbound market. The tourist competitiveness of the territory is examined, and the profile of the Chinese tourist is determined. The methodology used is linked to the Michael E. Porter diamond model and the descriptive analysis based on the preparation of an on-site questionnaire directed at the Chinese visitor. The outcome shows that the competitiveness of the territory around the Sun and Beach tourism is due to the natural and cultural wealth. These characteristics are aligned with what the Chinese tourist expects to find in the destination: nature, history, and heritage. Despite this study is limited to descriptive analysis, the research contributes to highlight the factors that must be improved and maintained at the destination. Finally, the information in the document increases knowledge about this type of tourist and the aspects necessary to make a more competitive destination.
